Project Metrics
The Metrics Panel
The Metrics panel features three sections: General numbers, Area Distribution, and Level Breakdown.
It enables you to track key site and building metrics in real-time, providing immediate insights into your project’s performance.
A – The project name or selected element: Building, Land or Site
To view metrics for a selected element, enable ‘Display Metrics for Selected Element’. For more details, visit the Project Preferences page
B – Toggle between sections.
The General Numbers Section
This section displays general metrics, including the unit mix.
Here’s what you can monitor:
TFA – Total Floor Area – The total floor area within the building, measured to the external face of the external walls.

GFA – Gross Floor Area – The total floor area multiplied by the efficiency factor (configurable).

Site Area – The total area of the site within the site boundaries.

FSI – Floor Space Index. Also referred to as FAR (Floor Area Ratio) is the ratio of the total floor area (GFA) to site area.

BCR – Building Coverage Ratio – The ratio of the building total first-floor area (footprint) divided by the site area.

Height – The height of the highest building in the project.

Storeys – The number of storeys of the highest building in the project.

NSA – Net Saleable Area – The amount of space for sale extracted from the total floor area, calculated by multiplied sell efficiency factor (configurable).

Units – Total Unit Count – NSA divided by average unit size.

Parking – Total required and provided parking spots, calculated by parking to units ratio, and parking per m2 / ft2.

Customize
You can hide and rename metrics using the following steps:
1. Click ‘Customize‘ at the bottom of the panel.

2. To hide a metric, click the eye icon next to it.

3. To rename a metric, click on its name and type a new name.

4. Click ‘Done’ to save your changes.

Create Custom Metrics
1. Click ‘Customize‘ at the bottom of the dashboard.

2. Click the ‘+’ icon to open the Formula Editor.

Formula Editor
Name your custom metric.

Build your formula by typing the calculation directly. You can use the + button to insert existing metrics into the formula.
The formula editor supports both basic and advanced functions. Here are a few examples:
- round – Rounds to the nearest whole number
- ceil – Rounds up to the nearest whole number
- floor – Rounds down to the nearest whole number
- log10 – Base-10 logarithm
- log2 – Base-2 logarithm
- square – Returns the square of the value (value²)
- sqrt – Returns the square root of the value
Example:
round(TFA) will round the TFA value to the nearest whole number.

- Select the format from the drop-down menu.

- Choose the units from the drop-down menu and click Save to add the metric.

- Use the three-dot menu to edit or delete saved metrics.

Manage Settings and Formulas
To manage settings and formulas, click ‘Preferences’. For more information, refer to Project Preferences page.
Area Distribution
The Area Distribution section provides a visual breakdown of building space and land use.
Building Space Distribution: View the distribution of areas by program, along with their respective percentages. Use the tabs at the top to switch between TFA, GFA, and NSA.
Land Use: Shows how the area is allocated. Toggle between Total and Buildable land to assess availability and usage efficiency.

Level Breakdown
The Level Breakdown section lets you review building areas floor by floor, organized by program.
You can view totals per level as well as cumulative area summaries at the bottom.
Use the tabs at the top to switch between TFA, GFA, and NSA area types.

Real-Time Analysis
In Planary, you can continue to work and edit the polylines in AutoCAD and the metrics will update accordingly.
You have the flexibility to exclude specific sites or buildings from the overall metrics at any time.
